Garret Wes:
Hello everybody, welcome back. You're watching 'The Discourse' with our guests Professor Lambert Henny from the University of California at Los Angeles, Roslyn Ford the Minister of Defence, Jan Antonsen the Minister of Justice & Emergency Planning, General Rupert Karl and Pope Timo Nicolaus Kauffmann.
Before the break we talked about how the second Big Bang changed earth and our lives, how the God Particles affected human beings and how we now have a war on our heads.
I'd like to ask a question which many viewers and listeners are keen on knowing. Where will General Arcadeus strike next? He's been in Belgium for a couple of days now and his numbers seem to be rising. We're seeing massive amounts of people who we're assuming are demigods who are answering his call from all over the world. So where do you suspect he will attack and what is the military doing to stop him?
Roslyn Ford:
The military is more focused on closing the respective borders within Europa and containing the situation in the national regions before coming up with any type of offensive strategy. General Arcadeus has caused a great stress worldwide by calling every demigod up to arms. What we're facing isn't an army but our own people, randomly picked by the God Particle, and social politics has made it so that no matter what their morality was before, whether lawful or not, we have turned all of them against us.
J
an Antonsen:
We are trying to come up with ways of identifying demigods to commence preemptive operations. There were experiments held by the European Defence Division before these incidents but we have come nowhere and the war isn't helping with the progression. Because of this, we have police on the streets and rooftops to keep areas safe and under lockdown until we have every single demigod under arrest or dead. With this we also need the help of citizens, to tip us on whereabouts of demigods and to help create blockades and underground shelters.
We are providing supplies and machinery to go underground as soon as possible. Every helping hand is beneficial. This is a time when humans need to really help each other for survival.
Garret Wes:
You say that you need the help of citizens but has there been any call for volunteers to help hunt down demigods? We've received tons of images where groups of people have posted pictures online with severed heads of what they claim to be demigods. Is the government allowing this sort of behaviour or will it be punished?
General Karl:
Those cases are being evaluated and will be put to rest until further notice.
Garret Wes:
Why is that General?
General Karl:
Because we do need all the help we can get. One less demigod is one less demigod. Can you imagine punishing citizens for what our soldiers doing? Their civilian status does not take away the freedom to help defend their country. However, as I stated, their cases are being evaluated.
Garret Wes:
How are they being evaluated?
General Karl:
Under no circumstance are war crimes tolerated. Any case we evaluate and deem as a war crime will be punishable but these acts will not take place before the end of the war. I've known General Arcadeus for a long time and I know that he has become power hungry but he still has his morals and discipline. I do not believe he will become a tyrant although that does not change my opinions on demigods and what he has become. If possible, we need to take Arcadeus alive for him to pay for his actions.
As Mr Antonsen said, we humans need to stand together but we need to rise above this. We cannot let this war bring us down. We cannot lose our humanity when we're fighting to retain it.
Garret Wes:
And if we can come back to the question, where do you think Arcadeus will attack next? You know the General, do you think you know what his attack strategy would be?
General Karl:
It's very difficult to say because only a handful of his army are actual soldiers, the rest are civilians, not to mention that not all demigods are trained in their own powers. Many are still trying to grasp their capabilities.
With the perfect army, Arcadeus will try to cause terror. He will try to cut off the head instead of focusing too much on the body. He has always been best with tactical strikes that focus mainly on the chain of command. He will try to cut off any sources of Intel until our armies are in the dark.
Our best guess, knowing him, he will build an impenetrable fortress in each capital if he ever needs to retreat. He can easily order those who are within the borders of his next target to attack and cause mayhem which will be very hard to sustain. This is why we are on the defensive. We can never know when we'll be attacked.
But on the subject on how to defeat Arcadeus and his demigods, we must simply scare them off. Like I said earlier, a large quantity of his army is made up of civilians who do not know how to use their powers. We use that against them. We've already made it clear to the world that they are in fact not immortal. They can die just as easily as we can.
Garret Wes:
Thank you, General. We will now be answering some direct calls from our viewers. Our first caller is up now, from the Netherlands, hello sir.
Caller #1:
Hello. I just wanted to point out that not all demigods are evil. My cousin happens to be one of the infected and he doesn't know how to respond to Arcadeus's call. He wants to help us but he's afraid to show his powers, that people will immediately attack him. Can't we create some kind of group made up of demigods that are willing to help us? Or better yet, why not create something that will take out these God Particles? There must certainly be a cure.
Garret Wes:
Anyone want to answer that?
Prof. Henny:
I would like to. Hello sir. You've come up with some excellent points there and we have thought about these procedures. The only problem is that we cannot divert our attention from the real crisis which is the war. And creating a group of demigods that will fight for us does sound good in theory but you're forgetting what brought us here in the first place. Humans simply do not trust them no matter their morality. It is an incredibly scary reality to have humans that are armed 24/7 who have the capabilities to create a massacre within minutes, perhaps even seconds.
And a cure? Sir, this is no illness. It's not some kind of disease we've come across where we can simply cure it. We believe that God Particles have bonded entirely with the affected genetic structures. The only way we've seen that can unbind the particles is death.
G
arret Wes:
Thank you for answer professor. We only have time for one more caller. This next one is from Germany. Hello sir.
Caller #2:
Earlier the General said that certain acts against the demigods will count as War Crimes. How dare you, General? We're at war. We shouldn't be punished for defending our countries and lives. Even if certain acts do count as War Crimes, we should all be pardoned by the end of the day. I call bullshit if we all end up going to jail for doing the right thing. I've killed a demigod with my brother. We cut that bitch up and we sawed off her hands and feet and nailed her to the wall to make it clear that we will kill any demigod we see. What the fuck are you going to do? Throw us into jail? We're the real heroes General. We're doing what you're too afraid to do because of politics. Fuck politics and fuck the government. When it all comes down to either my life or theirs, I'll gladly fuck up a motherfucker. You should man the fuck up General or your medals will mean nothing.
Garret Wes:
General, I guess you should answer that.
General Karl:
How old are you? Eighteen? And I'm guessing you haven't even served in the army yet. Read up on a little bit of our history and you'll understand why there is such a thing as a War Crime. Look up the Geneva convention. Committing a War Crime makes you filth. You talk about being a man but you aren't even human, kid. You've mistaken what war really is.
I have an endless supply of reasons to why you shouldn't commit a War Crime. First of all, not one soldier, not one, deserves to be treated with such disgust and physical abuse. To fight a war takes real courage and every soldier out there, whether they are ours or not, is a hero to their cause. They fight with pride, knowing that if they win their people will forever be grateful to them. The best we can ever do is treat every soldier with respect, even in death.
Everyone is different in the world. If you had some knowledge of our past you'd know the countless lives that were lost because of different ideologies and beliefs. Think of war as an argument. Each side will probably have their own valid points but it is never acceptable to insult the person you are arguing with. It is out of context and it is simply rude and undisciplined. If you cannot argue your side of things without personally harassing your opponent then it is perhaps because you are on the wrong side. The only honourable way to defeat the enemy is by following the rules, arguing with valid points, with facts, with reasoning, explaining why you are right. You cannot simply disagree with someone and punch them in the face all the while shouting at the top of your lungs that you are right and they are wrong.
And once you have won an argument you do not boast about it. The person who has lost will know it and so will others but once you boast on and on about how you defeated someone is when you will lose everyone's respect. But to the matter at hand, it is already a great burden to take someone's life but to toy with it? To control the fate of someone's life and continuously tease them with death? What does that make you? A hero? In my eyes, you become a monster.
So you change your act up right now because I will have none of it once this war is finished. I will personally knock on your door when the time comes, mark my words.
Garret Wes:
Thank you, General, that there was a beautiful response. And that will be all for today folks. Thank you all for giving us your time and coming here. Hopefully, our viewers have a better understanding of the situation and know how to handle themselves.
